AMAZING FACTS ABOUT MICE...

Jumping Bus.jpg

Mice can squeeze through a gap as small as 0.6 cm. That's roughly the width of a pencil. Basically, if they can fit their heads through something, the rest of their body can follow.

Mice are nocturnal and don't have great vision. Instead, they rely on their sense of smell, touch, and hearing to get them around. Kind of like the comic book hero Daredevil.

Mice teeth never stop growing. In fact, they grow approximately 0.03cm a day. That's a half a cm every 16 days. They have to constantly gnaw on hard surfaces to stop their teeth growing too big for their mouths. Kind of like you filing your nails.

Mice have extraordinary hearing. They can hear ultrasound up to 90,000 HZ. To give you an idea just how good that is, we generally only hear between 1,000-5,000Hz.

Mice have a vertical jump of around 25.4 cm. That is roughly the equivalent of leaping 6 times their height.  Imagine being able to jump that high. YOu'd be able to leap over a bus.

A mouse's tail can grow as long as its body. How long would that make your tail if you had one?

Although mice can live on crumbs, typically they eat 3 grams of food per day (10-15% of their body weight). If you are the weight of an average 8-year old (25kg) that would be the equivalent of you eating 2-4kg of food a day.
